Lexus LF-A Hybrid in the Works?

Posted by Joel
LeftlaneNews spy photographers have snapped a few photos of a Lexus LFA prototype. Since the Lexus LFA has been out for a while it's interesting that Lexus might be working on something new. The Lexus LFA prototype camouflage depicts fake panels especially in the front fender near the A-pillar. Normally when we see a piece of camouflage like this, it's often hiding a port of some kind. GM’s plug-in hybrid test mules have been spotted with a similar camo patch. Since Toyota/Lexus have been pioneers in hybrid technology it would be nice to have a hybrid sports car on the market.

Toyota Sports Car Family Welcomes FT-86

Posted by Joel
The Toyota FT-86 will be remarkable vehicle when it's officially released. With the increase buzz from the media regarding the recalls Toyota needs to find a way to create more passionate vehicles. While surfing the net I came across an interesting photo. The photo depicts a family portrait of the FT-86 in the context of the Corolla AE86 (its most obvious predecessor) as well as the Celica and Supra. I'm quite surprised that the MR2 didn't appear on this photo.

Toyota FT-86: U.S. Bound

Posted by Joel
There is a void in Toyota lineup these past few years... Toyota's lineup of vehicles are targeted to a way older demographic. Although Toyota has the urban branded Scion for the younger generation they're still missing the performance spirt that a lot of car junkies crave. Since the death of both the MR2 and Celica, Toyota has lacked any sports cars that's available to the average consumer. A lot of attention was on focused on fuel efficiency than performance.

Amongst all the current recalls Toyota has some good news for all us performance enthusiast: Toyota FT-86. Currently, a concept the rear wheel drive Toyota FT-86 is meant to fill that void in their line up. Toyota U.S. president Jim Lentz confirmed the FT-86 for U.S. sale. With the prices rumored to start at around $22,000, the FT-86 is going to be gunning for the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. It's not confirmed whether or not it will feature Subaru's boxer engine.

The people over at the FT-86 club have said that the design from the Toyota’s Europe Design Development have been rejected in favor of Calty Design Research's design. Calty Design Research is Toyota's North American design studio.

They write, "It’s being reported that the basic elements of the FT-86 in its new form are all ready, with the exception of a few minor items which will be finalized in March. The new Calty designed FT-86 will have less aggressively carved and curved surfaces, will feature increased overhangs (boo!), and have a higher front fascia (in all likelihood to meet current pedestrian safety requirements. Wheelbase and physical dimensions have not changed. As for the Subaru version of the FT-86, it will not differ from the Toyota version as much as previously reported. Expect only badge and option differences."

KWIKFILMS Blast from the Past: David Jaquel Toyota Supra Twin Turbo

Posted by Joel
It was about two years ago when this video was made. At that time, KWIKFILMS was just starting out. We attended a good amount of local car meets. Most of our car meets consisted of Toyota Supra owners.

I first met David Jaquel at one of the car meet in Mission Valley. At that time he was non-turbo with a killer bronze 5-zigen wheels. David is one of those Supra owners that you want to be around. You can say that he really "loved" his Supra to the point that he saved up and did a full twin turbo motor swap.

Although he enjoyed being in the United States he had to go back to France. David packed his belongings and sold his Supra. This video was created as a small little tribute to his first Supra.
